'Liberatus' is Latin, for 'Liberated'.
It is hard to not feel a tinge of sadness, witnessing the slow end of a glacier's life. On this brilliant, early-Spring day, I stood at the lake shore and watched the smaller 'bergy bits' rocking and being tossed about by the stuttering, katabatic wind. The larger bergs had grounded themselves in the lake bottom, attempting to stoically facedown the inevitable melt and continuation in its life cycle. The day's beaming sun only seemed to embolden their defiance. But stand here long enough, and even the massive slabs of glacial remnants, resign themselves to their fate.
